Work visas enable the Applicant to work on a long term basis or a
temporary basis in Australia.
There are various options for obtaining a long term work visa that
include but are not limited to the following visa options:
i. Temporary
Business Long Stay-Standard Business Sponsorship ( subclass 457 )
This temporary visa allows employers in Australia to sponsor approved
skilled workers for the purpose of employment in Australia. The
Applicant must have an occupation that is in demand in the Australian
labour market and have some vocational experience (generally 3 years).
This visa is issued for up to four years and can be renewed. The visa is
issued with the condition that the Applicant may not change employment
without first receiving the approval of the Department of Immigration.
As of 1st July 2007, an applicant is required to show that he/she is
proficient in English. Proof of English proficiency is by means of the
submission of the equivalent a score of 5 in each of the four test
components in the IELTS test. There are a few exceptions to this rule
which include: an employee that will receive a minimum gross salary of
$81,040 based on a 38 hour week; an applicant who has completed at least
5 years of continuous study and/or tertiary education at an institution
were at least 80% of the instruction was conducted in English; the first
language of the applicant is English and he/she is a passport holder
from Canada, New Zealand, the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom or
the USA; or the nominated occupation of the Applicant is within the
highly skilled major groups 1-3 of the Australian Standards
Classification of Occupations (ASCO) comprising managers,
administrators, professionals and associate professionals.
ii. Labour
Agreements Visa
Formal arrangements exist whereby an Australian industry group or
employer is able to recruit a specified number of skilled workers on a
temporary or permanent basis for a number of years.
iii. Invest
Australia Supported Skills Program
This is a specific visa designed for applicants who are considered to be
the key personnel of an overseas based international firm that intends
or is making a significant investment in Australia.
iv. Service
Sellers
If you are a representative of an overseas supplier of services that is
negotiating, or entering into, an agreement to supply its services in
Australia under the General Agreement on Trade and Services then you
will be eligible for this visa.
v. Specialised
Visas for Medical Practitioners and Educational workers
There are specialised visas for medical practitioners who are registered
to work in Australia and for educational workers to be employed on a
temporary basis by a sponsoring Australian tertiary education or
research institute, school or technical college.
Australia has also created the opportunity for tourists/visitors between
the ages of 18-30 to obtain a
Holiday Temporary Work
Visa in certain circumstances. Working Holiday visas are
available to applicants from certain specified countries and are issued
for a period of 12 months during which the Applicant is able to remain
in Australia and work in various types of employment provided that
he/she does not work for the same employer for a period of more than 3
months.
