Immigration According To Professional Skills and Qualifications

Australia, Canada, Britain, and New Zealand today offer opportunities for an individual and his immediate family ( spouse/common law spouse and children ) to receive a visa to immigrate with permanent residence status on the basis of the professional skills and qualifications of the applicant. This type of migration is known as skilled migration.

Professional skills and qualifications can be acquired by means of academic studies at universities and recognized colleges, trade schools or by means of an apprenticeship. In some instances, skills will be recognized even though the applicant has had no formal training.

In order to check if your skills and qualifications are recognized in a particular country, one must check that his/her occupation appears on the skills recognition list. It is important to note that NOT all occupations are recognized for the purpose of migration. In addition to the recognition of the skills and qualifications of the individual, one is required to prove that he/she has a certain amount of experience in that profession. The skilled migration program is limited to a specific age:
In Australia: the applicant must be under 45 years of age
In New Zealand: the applicant must be under 55 years of age
In Canada: the applicant must be under 55 years of age

There are various programs for skilled migration in each country. These programs are based on various criteria such as an accumulation of sufficient points according to a point tested system, regional migration according to regional demand for such a profession, sponsorship by a particular region or local government and sponsorship by a close relative in a particular region.
