If I have relatives in a country am I able to apply for a visa on the grounds of family reunification?

The mere fact that one has family in a country does NOT necessarily form the basis for an immigration application for family reunification. Each country has its own specific regulations as to family reunification that is limited to particular circumstances.

In most countries, close family provides some basis or benefit for the immigration process such as extra points in a point system migration scheme. However the fact that one has family in a country is generally not a sufficient basis alone for satisfying the immigration requirements in that country to obtain a permanent residence visa.

For the age group 18-30, the Department of Immigration is very reluctant to issue a new tourist visa to an applicant that has already spent the maximum time allowed by law visiting that country.

How can I be sure that I will be able to financially support my family after I have immigrated?

In the preliminary stages, you should carefully check out the cost of living in the country you intend to immigrate to and all of the factors related thereto including your professional salary levels, taxation rates, cost of consumer products, education, housing ( rental and mortgages ) and the cost of child-care in order to decide whether you are financially able to afford to immigrate. When you are notified of a decision to refuse to grant or to cancel a visa, you will also be advised as to whether you may seek a review of the decision. Depending of the nature of the decision, any right of review you have will be to one of the relevant review board. The review/appeal in each case will be a review of the merits of the decision.
